Ex- Federal Bureau of Investigation Chief James Comey Enters Not Guilty Plea to Accusations of Misleading US Legislators
Previous FBI director James the former director has denied the charges to providing misleading information to US legislators and obstructing a congressional proceeding.
The former director's lawyer filed the response representing him in a national courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.
The defense lawyer declared he would try to have the case terminated for several reasons including that his the accused, a critic of President Donald Trump, was being singled out.
James Comey was charged shortly after the former president pushed his chief prosecutor to take action against him.

During the hearing on Wednesday, his attorney the legal representative informed the magistrate they intended to file multiple petitions to throw out the case before a court case, arguing the prosecution was spiteful and that a federal prosecutor was unlawfully appointed to take over the proceedings.
The former director's legal matter was first managed by a Virginia prosecutor, who stepped down under scrutiny from Trump after his investigation into a different political adversary - the New York official - failed to bring criminal charges.

Upon hearing to the magistrate recite his rights and the two counts against him in the courtroom on Wednesday, James Comey was asked if he grasped the accusations.

The former director was the FBI Director from 2013-2017 and was dismissed about several months into the former president's first term as president. At the time, the director was overseeing an probe into international campaign influence and whether there were any links between the Russian government and the presidential campaign.
During his tenure, the director sparked a counter-response from liberal politicians when he announced just days before the 2016 election that he was examining presidential nominee the candidate's use of a personal email system. Charges against Hillary Clinton were not filed, resulting in disapproval from Republicans as well.

Prosecutors claim James Comey provided false information to Congress during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in 2020 when he was being examined about both the previous examination as well as the Russia election probe. They claim he misled the Senate by claiming he had not authorized a person at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to release to news outlets data about the government examinations.

Through a recording the former director shared to his Instagram after he was accused, he stated he was wrongly accused and alleged the former president of acting like a "autocrat".
"We have known for considerable time that there are ramifications to challenging the former president," he commented. "We will not live on our knees."
"I'm innocent," he continued. "Thus initiate a trial."
These allegations against the former director surfaced after Trump posted on social media demanding his attorney general, Pam Bondi, prosecute the former director and other people.
