England Golf Seeks Government Backing for the year 2030 Women's Golf Showcase Hosting Proposal
The most recent European vs US women's golf contest taking place in Europe was in Spain in 2023, with the next tournament set for Holland four years from now.
Following the latest Ryder Cup victory, the national golf association is urging UK authorities to support their proposal to host the Solheim Cup in the country for the first time.
This elite tournament pitting the leading women players from Europe and the United States has been held twice in Scotland and in Wales but never in England. An official proposal has been assembled to organize it at The Grove in Hertfordshire eight years from now.
Yet planners need £30m to support this proposal and currently just ten million pounds is in place. England Golf is requesting government funding to cover the shortfall.
Financial Requirements and Timeline
Talks to obtain public funding commenced earlier this year but a decision regarding if backing will be granted is urgently needed. The hosting rights for the 2030 event are held by the International Management Group who require an answer within the current month.
As stated in the official documentation, England Golf believes that winning the hosting rights "offers significant benefits for England".
